Record Increases in Chickpea and Green Lentil Production

Thanks to our ministry's pulse policies and TMO's purchase guarantee for pulses since 2018, our chickpea and green lentil production has reached record levels.

In 2018 and 2019, our chickpea planting areas increased by 32% and our green lentil planting areas by 72%; in 2019, our production increased by 34% compared to 2017, reaching 630 thousand tons in chickpeas and by 45% in green lentils, reaching 44 thousand tons. The epidemic that started in 2020 and the agricultural drought experienced in 2021 also affected our pulse production. However, 2023 is at an extremely good point in terms of climatic conditions compared to the previous two years. When we look at meteorological data, precipitation rates have increased by 70% compared to the previous year. These rainy days make us more hopeful for the new season.
